Syria: Syrian beer ready to be bottled as 16 $ bln brewery opens

A beer factory went up and running in coastal city of Safita, Friday, in a bid to produce 15 million litres of beer a year. The $16 billion (€13.4 billion) factory was opened by two Syrian expats living in the Czech Republic, along with the help of specialist companies. Prior to the plight of the Syrian war, there were two beer factories in Syria, but both have since ceased operations, and... Еще the country has been importing its beer from Lebanon. Safita, located in Tartous Governorate, some 250 kilometres (155 miles) from Damascus, overlooks the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, and possesses a social and religious environment suitable for alcohol production.
