US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) advanced north-east along the Euphrates river, securing the industrial area of Deir ez-Zor, as they continued their offensive against the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), Monday.
Footage shows SDF troops stationed along the Khurafy highway, which links the city of Hasakeh with Deir ez-Zor. It is reported that SDF are only four kilometres... Еще away from Syrian Arab Army (SAA) troops, which decided to advance on a separate offensive against IS.
Spokesperson of Deir ez-Zor Military Council Kindal Doghan said that SDF are «now advancing on three accesses,» the first one «heading to Deir ez-Zor,» the second one in the surroundings of Abu Khashab, «and the third one is after Abu Khashab.»
Doghan also noted that SDF troops are «trying to separate Deir ez-Zor from the Shamyya area in cooperation with the Coalition and the YPG [People's Protection Units] forces.»
On 5 September, SAA units had linked up with previously-surrounded troops, thus breaking the three-year-long siege of the government-held enclave of Deir ez-Zor, with the help of the SAA Tiger Forces (also known as the Qawat Al-Nimr).
