Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) spokesperson Reydour Khalil said that the ongoing Turkish military operation in north-eastern Syria «revived and activated» Islamic State (formerly ISIS/ISIL) in Qamishli and other areas. The statement was made in al-Hasakah on Saturday.
«We are still until now cooperating with the international coalition to fight Daesh. We are now fighting on two fronts... Еще. One against the Turkish invasion and another against Daesh organisation,» added Khalil.
He then urged SDF allies «to perform their duties and take their moral responsibilities» and «to close the airspace for Turkish warplanes.»
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the beginning of a military operation, dubbed 'Operation Peace Spring', on October 9 to create a 'safe zone' cleared of US-backed Kurdish groups.
