Syrian Arab Army (SAA) units were filmed in Deir Ezzor on Wednesday in Deir Ezzor governorate as they continue an offensive against the so-called Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL).
Military vehicles were seen moving through the desert searching for IS fighters in the area and defusing landmines.
«Our operations are continuing in the Syrian desert [al-Badia] starting from the south-eastern side of the Deir Ezzor city and reaching to the Iraqi borders,» said an SAA officer.
According to another SAA officer, weapons found at IS headquarters were destroyed during the operation in the al-Fayda area, to the east of al-Mayadeen city.
The current campaign was reportedly launched after several attacks, linked to IS, targeted oil fields in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor earlier this month.
