Succet cafe bustled with the sounds of chatting visitors on Monday night; as the Damascus coffee shop, which is primarily staffed by workers with Down syndrome, continued to draw in people for business. Succet cafe is a self-proclaimed 'first' of its kind in Syria. And so far, it seems to have been a success. The cafe first opened just over two weeks ago, in line with the 'Al-Cham Gathers Us... Еще' festival in Damascus. The initiative was set up with the intention of training and encouraging young people with Down syndrome to work, while integrating them further into society.
