The restoration of historical sites destroyed during the Syrian civil war kicked off in Raqqa, with volunteers championing the civil movement, footage from Thursday reveals.
«We started our work by conducting comprehensive research about the museum and what it needs,» explained Talal Al-Khalil from the Rou'yah organisation.
«We started cleaning its interior; we started scraping the walls as... Еще they had sustained serious damage and cracks. We also restored a hole in the ceiling.»
He went on to say that specialists were brought in to repair murals and artworks.
Archaeological sites in Raqqa sustained extensive damage during clashes between the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) and US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
