A park in the Jura neighbourhood of Deir ez-Zor has been converted into a local cemetery as the central cemetery area is under control of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS, ISIL), in footage captured Friday.
One local resident described how IS had banned citizens from burying the dead in the main cemetery area in Deir ez-Zor. He went on to say mortars had been «falling like... Еще rain» on the city which had caused many deaths.
The local also said that the park had been «one of the most beautiful parks in this neighbourhood.»
Deir ez-Zor has been under siege by ISIS since the group launched an offensive on the city in May 2015. Some 125,000 civilians reportedly live in the city under dire humanitarian conditions.
