More than three million children are believed to have returned to their schools across government-controlled areas in Syria, on Sunday, with COVID-19 measures taking place as seen at an elementary school in Damascus.
The children at Farabi School in Northern Damascus were seen returning to their classrooms and following measures like wearing face masks, the use of antibacterial gel and social distancing. School staff were also seen cleaning and disinfecting the school's surfaces.
«We came to check on the health situation in the school in terms of sterilization, cleanliness and the readiness of health facilities in general, and this matter applies to all the schools in Damascus. The health status in all schools is very safe, and the monitoring is strict in terms of sterilization, hygiene and the distribution of soap,» said Head of School Health Department in Damascus Ali Taha at the scene.
The school reopening, initially planned for the beginning of September, was reportedly postponed over concerns of COVID-19 spreading.
