The last family to leave Raqqa stadium, which was being used as a prison by Islamic State, have spoken of their ordeal at the hands of the terror group.
Mohammad al-Nabhan said “I have been here for a year and three months. We have been besieged, we tried to get out but [ISIS] did not allow us; they accused us of smuggling people out, they took my sons and detained them, then set them free... Еще after 10 days.»
Another member of the family stated «ISIS forced us out from Palmyra to Raqqa, and we were besieged here because of problems related to ISIS. May God not allow them to return again, and may they not come to anyone because it is by them that the houses and the country was destroyed.»
Raqqa's municipal stadium area was used by the IS militants as a prison, and along with the hospital became one of the last holdouts by the fighters in Raqqa as troops of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the People's Protection Units (YPG) made a final push to oust IS from the city.
The US-backed alliance has claimed that it has taken control of Raqqa but pockets of fighters remain.
