Protesters gathered in Kobane on Monday, rallying against the Turkish military operation currently underway in the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq.
One demonstrator at Monday's rally, Ahmad Bozo, appealed to the «international community to take measures» against Turkey, and to intervene in order to stop «the aggression against the Kurdish people.»
The Turkish Defence Ministry says that Operation Claw-Tiger, launched overnight on Monday June 15th, has hit more than 500 suspected Kurdish militant targets as part of a joint air and land offensive against the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in response to attacks on Turkish military bases.
Local officials say at least five civilians have died during the cross-border campaign, with the total death toll unknown. Iraq has called the Turkish airstrikes a violation of its sovereignty, claiming that the raids have broken international law.
