Syria: Joint Russian-Turkish patrols of Idlib’s M4 highway begin

Russia’s Ministry of Defence released footage of the first joint Russian-Turkish patrol along the M4 highway in Idlib on Sunday. The patrol was agreed to run from the settlement of Trumba, two kilometres to the west from Saraqib, to the settlement of Ayn al-Hawr. The Defense Ministry reported that the first patrol was shortened due to alleged provocations from militants, who allegedly attempted to use civilians, including women and children, as human shields. The March 15 start of the joint patrols was one of the points agreed upon during the negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on March 5 in Moscow, which were set up to de-escalate rising tensions in the region.
