Syria: 'It was a hard-fought battle' — British SDF volunteer following Raqqa liberation

A Syrian Democratic Force (SDF) volunteer from the UK recounted his experience during the deployment as a sniper, after the SDF wrestled control of Raqqa from the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) earlier in the week, when speaking on the outskirts of the city, Thursday. The SDF soldier said, «It's been a hard-fought battle. A lot of people have died. Couple of my friends... Еще. But finally, [I have] done it. Daesh left the city.» The soldier fought along with three other snipers who travelled to Syria to fight in the SDF in the battalion '2231.' The US-backed alliance has claimed that it has taken control of Raqqa but pockets of fighters remain.
