Syria: High school exams take place despite coronavirus fears

Secondary education students began taking their final high school exams for the 2020 school year in Syria on Sunday, amid precautionary measures to prevent infections with COVID-19. Footage from Damascus shows the precautionary measures taken by schools, including spraying disinfectants in all classes and corridors, in addition to helping students disinfecting their hands before entering the classes. «Today we came to take the exams despite the coronavirus pandemic in the country and the fear that we are feeling,» said a student partaking in the exams. Rana Moselli who acts as the Assistant Director of Education for Basic Education and Vanguards in Damascus talked about some of the precautionary measures saying, «The number of male and female students who perform their final high school exams is 45,646 students in Damascus. All exam centres have been disinfected.» As of Sunday, Syria has registered 198 confirmed cases of COVID-19, of which 78 cases have fully recovered. Seven have died with the virus thus far.
