Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem and UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen held a meeting in Damascus on Wednesday to discuss progress around the formation of a constitutional committee.
The minister announced progress had been made towards an agreement for the formation of the body which would supervise the creation of a new constitution.
Muallem and Pedersen agreed that the... Еще constitutional process is a Syrian affair and the constitutional process should be conducted by the Syrian people according to their own national interests.
The committee is reportedly set to have 150 members, with 50 chosen by the UN Envoy, 50 by the Assad government, and 50 by the opposition.
The two parties also reiterated the importance of the UN Special Envoy's mission to ensure the success of the intra-Syrian dialogue.
Pedersen, who arrived in Damascus on Tuesday in a bid to support efforts to end the eight-year conflict, confirmed talks had been «good» but more needed to be addressed.
