Switzerland: UN human rights agency office condemns 'shocking' Sweida attacks

UN Human Rights Office spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani condemned last week's «shocking» attacks in and around Sweida, at a press briefing in the UN office in Geneva on Tuesday. Shamdasani said, «We strongly condemn the shocking attacks by ISIL in civilian populated areas in Sweida in southwest Syria last Wednesday.» She went on to say that «ISIL fighters initially took women from a handful of... Еще houses from Al-Shbeiki village and used them to knock on the doors of their neighbours, then entering and killing and abducting more civilians from inside their homes.» Photos of the women were later posted online, issuing threats against their lives if the government did not release Islamic State militants and their families. Suicide bombers claimed the lives of 200 people in a series of attacks on the Druze minority area. The self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) claimed responsibility.
