Switzerland: UN admits Rohingya crisis is a «shocking, unparalleled emergency»

The Rohingya refugee crisis has been described as a «shocking humanitarian emergency” during an urgent meeting of the UN Council for the Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief in Geneva on Monday. International Organisation for Migration Director General William Lacy Swing said: “the speed, scope and scale of the Rohingya refugee crisis requires a massive humanitarian response from the... Еще international community.» The UN has estimated that around 500,000 people have fled the region since August 25 with more than 90 percent Rohingya, amid widespread reports of indiscriminate killings, arson, looting and rape by the Myanmar military. Myanmar's military claims to be pursuing Rohingya militants after an attack that left 12 police officers dead on 25 August this year.
