Switzerland: Libyan envoy calls for 'holistic' solution as Refugee Forum draws to a close

The first Global Refugee Forum, co-hosted by the Federal Councillor of the Swiss Confederation and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, drew to a close in Geneva on Wednesday. A Libyan representative called for a «holistic» approach when handling the refugee crisis through «fostering the development in source countries.» He went on to say that the settlement of the refugee crisis «shouldn't... Еще only include a security solution,» adding that «this will not be accomplished unless source countries are being supported to build strong economies, and new investment opportunities are created.» Algerian Permanent Representative to the UN Office at Geneva, Rachid Belbaki, echoed the sentiment, noting that responsibilities of all parties «are not limited to the financing and protection» but also to the «search of sustainable solutions» to the refugee crisis. The UN Global Refugee Forum kicked off on December 16 at the UN headquarters in Geneva, with the stated objective of translating the principle of international responsibility-sharing into concrete action.
