Switzerland: IOC President wants ‘clean’ Russian athletes to participate

President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach wants ‘clean’ Russian athletes to compete under a neutral flag at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, he said at a press conference in Lausanne on Wednesday. The IOC President hoped that Russian athletes who can prove they are clean would take up the IOC’s offer to compete as a neutral 'Olympic Athlete from Russia' at PyeonChang 2018... Еще, South Korea. He said, «[Russian athletes] will seize this opportunity to participate there in the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 to represent a new generation of clean Russian athletes there in the games and to build a bridge into a clean future of Russian sport for which they can then be ambassadors.» Bach also denied that he spoken about the decision with Russian President Vladimir Putin. On Tuesday, the IOC banned Russia from competing at the 2018 Winter Olympics, following an investigation into allegations of state-sponsored doping at Sochi in 2014. The Russian Olympic Committee denies the allegations.
