Syria peace talks continued in Geneva on Thursday, after UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura called on the Russian President Vladimir Putin to «have the courage» to demand political reform in Syria from his allies in the Syrian government, during an interview with Swiss broadcaster RTS. Footage shows the opposition-led Syrian Negotiations Committee (SNC) meeting with De Mistura and his... Еще team during the eighth round of UN-mediated peace talks. During the RTS interview, De Mistura encouraged the Russian President to pressure Syrian President Bashar al-Assad into accepting fresh elections and a new constitution. The UN Special Envoy believes political reform will help Syria consolidate its military victory over Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS, ISIL) and that military victory alone is not sufficient for Assad to, as he put it, «win the peace». The Geneva talks are expected to last until December 15.
