Switzerland: Attacks against Rohingya are «coordinated and systematic» — OHCHR

UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR) stated that Myanmar security forces and armed individuals are responsible for the brutal attacks against Rohingya Muslims in the country's northern Rakhine State, when speaking from the Palais de Nations in Geneva on Wednesday, after releasing a report on the same topic. OHCHR Asia-Pacific section human rights officer Thomas Hunecke said “the credible information we... Еще gathered indicates that the destruction of Rohingya villages in northern Rakhine State and other human rights violations committed in the aftermath of 25 August attacks were executed in a well-organised, coordinated and systematic manner.” He added that the investigation found that the human rights violations were committed by Myanmar security forces, often in coordination with armed Rakhine Buddhist individuals. The report concluded that the return of Rohingya Muslims to their homes was “almost impossible” due to the fact the Myanmar military had deliberately destroyed their villages, using a strategy to “instill deep and widespread fear and trauma.” The UN has estimated that around 500,000 Rohingya have fled since August, many of them to Bangladesh, amid widespread reports of indiscriminate killings, arson, looting and rape by the Myanmar military. Myanmar's military claims to be pursuing Rohingya militants, after an attack that left 12 police officers dead on 25 August this year.
