The UK’s International Development Secretary Penny Mordaunt said the recent allegations of sexual misconduct by Oxfam employees should be a ‘wake-up call’ for the rest of the charity sector, in a speech from Stockholm on Wednesday. “The recent revelations about Oxfam, not solely the actions perpetrated by a number of those staff, but the way the organisation responded to those events should be a... Еще wake-up call to the sector”, said Mordaunt. It recently emerged that staff working for Oxfam had paid for prostitutes in Haiti at a time when the country was facing an enormous humanitarian crisis after the earthquake of 2011. The development secretary had threatened to withdraw Oxfam’s government funding if serious wrongdoing was proved. Mordaunt had been attending the first ever End Violence Against Children summit, where participants are expected to discuss ways to prevent and respond to violence against children.
