Sudan: Rebels and South Sudanese government sign peace deal

South Sudan's President Salva Kiir and newly reinstated Vice-President Riek Machar signed a ceasefire and power-sharing deal aimed at ending the five-year civil war in the eastern African nation, at a ceremony in Khartoum on Sunday. According to the rebel leader Machar, who as part of the deal was appointed Vice-President of South Sudan, the main goal now is to focus on the implementation of... Еще the deal. The deal was brokered by Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir, who announced that oil will be pumped from South Sudan's al-Wahda region to its northern neighbour Sudan from September onwards. South Sudan gained independence from Sudan in July 2011, but after a power struggle between President Kiir and his then Machar, the country plunged into civil war by December 2013.
