Sudan will enter a state of emergency for three months and a transitional military council will be formed to rule the country for a two-year period, Sudanese Defence Minister Awad Mohammed Ibn Ouf announced in a statement on state TV in Khartoum on Thursday.
Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir’s thirty-year rule came to an end on Thursday when Sudan’s military seized power and placed the ousted... Еще president under and placed house arrest.
The Sudanese Defence Minister stated that al-Bashir was being kept in a safe location and declared a three-month state of emergency, a one-month curfew, the closure of airspace, ports and crossings in Sudan, and the dissolving of the presidency and cabinet. The transition period will end with federal elections.
The coup follows months of protests demanding al-Bashir’s resignation, which saw dozens of demonstrators killed.
