Diplomats and officials came to the Russian Embassy in Khartoum, on Monday, to sign a book of condolences in honour of Russian ambassador to Sudan, Mirgayas Shirinski, who died in his home on August 23. Dr. Ali Al Haj, the Secretary General of the Popular Congress Party, stated «On behalf of the People's Congress Party in Sudan, we have extended condolences to the Russian Embassy and the family... Еще of the deceased. We ask God for His Mercy and forgiveness especially as we have taught him that he is Muslim.» In turn, the Russian language professor from Neelain University, Mohammed Sharaf Al Deen, stated «It is a grievous loss for Russia and Sudan as well as for our bilateral relations, especially in international, cultural and academic fields.» The 62-year-old diplomat reportedly passed away after suffering from what are believed to be symptoms of a heart seizure. Emergency services rushed to the scene but were unable to save Shirinski's life. Shirinski started diplomatic service in 1977, serving at the Russian embassy in Yemen as minister-counsellor in the 1990's and later as consul general to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. Between 2006 and 2013 he was ambassador to Rwanda. He was relocated to Sudan in December 2013.
