Hundreds of Palestinians staged a protest against Israel’s plans to annex parts of the occupied West Bank, in the town of Asira, north of Nablus, on Friday,
Footage shows Israeli forces firing tear gas and stun grenades at protesters, as well as the fires those grenades caused in agricultural lands.
One of the protesters said: “as you notice, the occupation forces intimidate the protesters who came to confirm that this land is a Palestinian land and to reject the de facto policy, as well as to emphasise that we will defend this Palestinian land.»
“As you see, this is the brutal force always used by the occupation forces against our unarmed Palestinian people. This is a call to the international community and the whole world to stand up for the woes and tortures of the Palestinian people, and to speak up at the international forums; be it in the International Criminal Court or the United Nation”, he added.
The Israeli government is planning to annex large areas of the occupied West Bank; a step which has been denounced by the United Nations, several European powers, and the Palestinian Authority as well as human rights organisations as being contrary to international law.
