Hundreds of Palestinians rallied in Ramallah on the 20th anniversary of the second intifada on Monday.
Demonstrators marched through the streets waving Palestinian flags and chanting anti-Israeli slogans
«On this day, we say to the masses of our Palestinian people, facing all these challenges that we will continue our resistance against the Israeli occupation, against the American attack, and against those who try to normalize with Israel or those who have normalized with Israel», said Muwaffaq Sahwil, the Secretary of the Fatah movement in the Ramallah and Al-Bireh Governorate.
The uprising, known as the second intifada, began in 2000 after former Israeli politician Ariel Sharon visited Temple Mount in Jerusalem in a controversial move. The step mass protests which escalated into a violent confrontation which lasted five years causing killing 3,000 Palestinians and 1,000 Israelis.
