State of Palestine: Demonstration marks 71st anniversary of Al-Nakba in Gaza

Demonstrators hit the streets of Gaza on Tuesday, to commemorate the 71st anniversary of Nakba Day, which marks the day Palestinians were displaced following the creation of the State of Israel in 1948. Demonstrators carried flags, signs and keys symbolising the houses that Palestinians fled on May 15, 1948. The protest began in front of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine... Еще Refugees (UNRWA) gate, before demonstrators poured in the streets. Fatah spokesperson Fayez Abu Eita asked the «international society to support the Palestinian people in ending the period of being homeless and refugees.» A Palestinian citizen said, in a reference to the UN Resolution 194, that «the right of return is a legitimate right and it is our right to go home and build a home the way we want, not the way the others want.» Nakba, means 'Catastrophe' in Arabic and refers to the 1948 Palestinian exodus, where an estimated 700,000 Palestinians were expelled to make way for the newly created state of Israel.
