State of Palestine: Abbas says Jerusalem is the 'eternal Palestinian capital'

State of Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas rejected the decision by US President Donald Trump to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, in a televised address from Ramallah on Wednesday. Abbas instead declared that Jerusalem is the “eternal capital of the State of Palestine”. The Palestinian President was highly critical of the impact that the US’s decision could have on the Middle East... Еще peace process and Israeli policy in the West Bank. “These reprehensible measures constitute a deliberate undermining of all peace efforts and represent a declaration that the United States has withdrawn from playing the role it has played in the past decades in sponsoring the peace process,” Abbas said. Arab leaders have joined Abbas in condemning Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Trump’s announcement marks a significant shift in US foreign policy. Alongside the recognition, Trump left the door open to an alternative solution to the Middle East process, saying that the US supports a two-state solution only if agreed upon by both sides.
