Thirty ships and 40 aircraft took part in the final rehearsal of Russia's Navy Day celebrations on the Neva River in St. Petersburg, Friday.
Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and St. Petersburg Governor Georgi Poltavchenko were reportedly in attendance of the event, along with some 3,000 people, who came to watch the rehearsal.
The Serpukhov small missile ship, anti-mine vessel Alexander... Еще Obukhov, Dmitrov submarines, as well as the Admiral Makarov frigate and Stoiky corvette sailed along the river. Aircraft participating in the event included the Ka-52K and Ka-29 military helicopters as well as Il-38, Tu-142M, Il-78, Su-33k, Su- 30SM, MiG-31BM, Su-27, Su-24M and MiG-29K.
The rehearsal reportedly caused a number of traffic jams after the Blagoveschensky, Dvortsovy, Troitsky and Liteiny bridges were raised during the rehearsal.
Navy Day is celebrated in Russia on July 30 with military parades taking place across the country. The celebration dates back to the Soviet era, having been established in 1939. It was stopped in 1980 then reinstated by Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2003.
