Sri Lankans launch daring operation to rescue elephant trapped in well

An elephant fell into 25 feet deep (7.6 metres) well in Welikanda, eastern Sri Lanka on Saturday and after struggling to get out on its own, locals launched an operation to rescue the ailing animal. With the help of a mindigger, the locals started chiselling away at the well from the sides. But due to the narrowness, the elephant couldn't move and remained stuck. The rescuers decided to... Еще fill the well with gravel to give the elephant some footing. It was then able to climb out and return to the wild. Fire crackers were used to scare the elephant back into the jungle. It took nearly one and half hours for the villagers to rescue the elephant.
