Spirits on the streets in Mexican 'Festival of Souls'

Thousands of revellers gathered in Merida, in the eastern state of Yucatan, to witness the 'March of Souls' celebration late on Wednesday. Over 600 people wearing skull face paint and bearing candles took part in the procession as representatives of souls returned from the afterlife to visit their relatives. Meanwhile, the living left offerings of food and drink on altars for the returned dead... Еще to celebrate their return. The tradition combines elements of Mayan folk traditions with Catholic influences, and is part of a seven-day 'Festival of Spirits,' celebrated annually in the state.
