Spokesperson of the Republican Left of Catalonia (Esquerra Republicana), Sergi Sabria addressed the press in Barcelona on Monday, stating that the best way to unite forces “against repression and against article 155” would be to win the upcoming regional elections in December. Sabria expressed his goal to “fill the polls with votes in defence of Catalan institutions,” adding that this would be... Еще “the best we can do now for those who are shamefully in prison,” as he referred to the imprisoned former members of the Catalan government. Sabria hinted to the possibility of a united platform of pro-independence parties in the elections. He defined this solution as “good in all cases for the country,” as it would maximize votes. He also took the opportunity to express his party’s wish to have the imprisoned former Catalan vice president, Oriol Junqueras, as the lead candidate for the party in the upcoming elections. The Spanish government of Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has taken over administrative control in Catalonia through the application of article 155 of the constitution, and called new elections for December 21.
