Spain: 'We are not criminals, we are democrats' — former Catalan minister

While ousted Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont was in Brussels today, other members of the former Catalan government — Josep Rull, Raul Romeva, Oriol Junqueras, Jordi Turull and Carles Mundó — met in the Catalan Parliament in Barcelona on Tuesday, while ousted Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont was in Brussels. In answer to a question, Rull said that the Catalan officials had decided to share... Еще responsibilities and that some members of the [former] government should stay in Barcelona. Commenting on his possible imprisonment, he said that there is a chance that Madrid will jail him, «because Spanish justice is really strange». Despite this fact, former Catalan officials are not scared, he said, adding «we are not criminals, we are democrats». Unlike Rull, Eva Granados from the Catalan Socialist party, believes in the Spanish justice system and says: «I think that it is guaranteed that [Puigdemont] will have a trial, a fair trial, with all the guaranties of the rule of law.» The Spanish High Court is processing charges of rebellion and sedition to Puigdemont and 13 other members of his administration. They will have to testify in Madrid on Thursday and Friday.
