Residents of Barcelona gave their opinion as Catalan parties started their campaigning for the upcoming regional elections in Barcelona on Tuesday, ahead of the December 21 vote. Several political parties have already started placing their electoral posters, and have begun canvassing in the streets of Barcelona, with residents divided on how they see the vote going. One Catalan voter said... Еще: “the elections of December 21 are going to be more important than any other, especially because of all the controversy over independence and non-independence, and well, we will see the real idea of the people and more importantly that of the silent majority.” Initial polls show Ciutadans, the anti-independence party, leading the vote, closely followed by Esquerra Republicana. Catalonia’s October 1 independence referendum was declared an illegal ballot by the Spanish state and led to the imprisonment of several counselors of the Generalitat Catalana. The leader of the left-independentist party Esquerra Republicana, Oriol Junqueras and the ex-Interior Minister Joaquim Forn are still in prison following Spain's removal of the Catalan government. However, six imprisoned consellers were released December 4.
