Anti-independence protesters spoke out on Sunday in Barcelona as tens of thousands took to the streets to voice their support for Madrid’s rule. One demonstrator Emilio said: «I'm here because I believe that all Spanish people have a future together, Spaniards are united by indissoluble bonds of brotherhood and freedom». Another, Isabel stated: «We are here to say that we want a united Spain... Еще, we are a heritage of tolerance and we want all the things not to go out from normal, independently of laws and concepts.» Waving flags and cheering, columns of people packed the streets celebrating the Spanish government's implementation of Article 155 and the impending Catalan regional elections on December 21st. Tensions flared in Spain following the Catalan declaration of independence and Madrid's decision to impose direct rule over Catalonia. Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has since dissolved the government of former Catalan President Carles Puigdemont and has called for fresh elections.
