Thousands of supporters of Spain's unity took part in a demonstration in Barcelona on Saturday marking the country's National Day. They marched through Passeig de Gracia Avenue reaching Plaza Catalunya square, a site known for pro-separatist rallies.
Former Popular Party candidate for Barcelona Mayor Josep Bou criticised the 'confrontationist' and 'selfish' nationalist movement'.
«Patriotism... Еще unites us. Patriotism is agreement, but patriotism also is, and I say it this way as business person, the healthcare system, education, economic growth, social well-being, decent employment and especially, Spanish unity. That is patriotism,» he said.
The National Day, known as 'El Dia de la Hispanidad’, or Hispanic Day, commemorates Christopher Columbus’ arrival in the Americas and honours Spain's armed forces.
