Thousands protesting in support of the Catalonia referendum gathered outside the regional police headquarters in Barcelona, Tuesday, before heading to the city's Plaza Universidad. Eight anti-riot police vans reportedly appeared at the scene which created a source of tension between police and some of the protesters. Local firemen diffused the situation by instructing protesters to raise their... Еще hands in a silent demonstration. The demonstration comes amidst a strike in protest against the police violence that occurred when Catalans voted in Sunday's referendum. The strike is supported by the Catalan sections of two of Spain's main workers unions, the Workers' Commission (CCOO) and the General Workers Union of Spain (UGT). Catalonia held a referendum on October 1 to decide on the region’s independence, with the Spanish government deeming the action 'illegal' and 'unconstitutional.' At least 893 people and 33 police officers were reportedly injured during Sunday’s independence referendum.
