Spain: Thousands demand Spain and Catalan hold talks

Thousands of people gathered on Saturday in front of the Barcelona City Hall and the government of Catalonia urging both sides to start dialogue over the controversial referendum. Around 5,500 people, most dressed in white, gathered in Plaza Sant Jaume with banners reading 'Dialogue' and 'non-violent communication.' Some protesters condemned the Catalan government for not taking into account... Еще the desire of Catalans who are against independence, and expressed their desire to remain Spanish. Catalonia held a referendum on October 1 to decide on the region's independence; however, the Spanish government deemed the action 'illegal' and 'unconstitutional.' At least 893 people and 33 police officers were reportedly injured in violent confrontations between voters and Spanish police who attempted to stop Catalans from voting at polling stations.
