Spain: Supreme Court adjourns ousted Catalan leaders' case until next Thursday

SOT, Enrique Leiva, lawyer for Catalan parliamentary deputy Joan Josep Nuet (Spanish): «He ordered a recess until next Thursday, so we could prepare our defences better, and also bring, if we can make it by Thursday, more documentation that will be necessary for the judge and us, in our case, so we can prepare our defence better as well as interrogations in this case.» Journalist (Spanish... Еще): *inaudible* Enrique Leiva, lawyer of Catalan parliamentary deputy Joan Josep Nuet (Spanish): «The police surveillance is a precautionary measure that was also requested by the prosecutor while we wait until Thursday. It means that they should be available on the phone and provide an address where they can be found, nothing else.» Journalist (Spanish): «Landline or mobile phone?» Enrique Leiva, lawyer of Catalan parliamentary deputy Joan Josep Nuet (Spanish): «Mobile phone. It means they can leave their houses.» Journalist (Spanish): «Didn't the prosecutor request a bail?» Enrique Leiva, lawyer of Catalan parliamentary deputy Joan Josep Nuet (Spanish): «No, he didn't. He only requested this measure, until Thursday.» Journalist (Spanish): «Puigdemont's topic, in the other trial, that he's staying in Brussels, did this affect you?» Enrique Leiva, lawyer of Catalan parliamentary deputy Joan Josep Nuet (Spanish): «They talked about this, I guess everyone has heard that he wasn't available, as far as we know he is not available, and if it did influence here or not, that is a matter, I guess, for the judge. But, of course, they talked about this.» Journalist (Spanish): «Do you think, as a lawyer in this trial, that this might affect you negatively?» Enrique Leiva, lawyer of Catalan parliamentary deputy Joan Josep Nuet (Spanish): «It's something we won't discuss whether it affects us positively or negatively, but of course, it will affect the extent of measures they will or could take, or that maybe they won't take, next Thursday. But of course it's something that is able to affect here. How? We will see.» Journalist (Spanish): «It will, maybe, make the penalties bigger?» Enrique Leiva, lawyer of Catalan parliamentary deputy Joan Josep Nuet (Spanish): «Maybe, but also it may not. It depends. Because the fact that he didn't show could reflect that there's no risk of a getaway for our clients, or maybe it's just the opposite, it depends on the point of view the judge takes and also, of course, the one of the prosecutor.» SOT, Journalist (Spanish): «Did you ask for more time so you could bring all the documents asked for in the complaint?» SOT, Enrique Leiva, lawyer of Catalan parliamentary deputy Joan Josep Nuet (Spanish): «No, part of the causes that the recess is based on is so we can guarantee our defence, for all the parts involved here, but the judge also said that it's possible to bring just minimum documentation before Thursday. He said it's possible. Maybe it arrives on time, maybe it doesn't. Anyway, the testimonies will be held next Thursday.» Journalist (Spanish): «How negatively does it affects your client that Puigdemont is in Belgium?» Juan Moreno, lawyer of Catalan parliamentary deputy Joan Josep Nuet (Spanish): «The judge should say if it has a negative affect.» Catalan parliamentary deputy Joan Josep Nuet's lawyer, Enrique Leiva, reported that the Supreme Court agreed to adjourn the case until Thursday 9th November, in Madrid, Thursday, allowing Catalan lawmakers and the Speaker of the Catalan Parliament Carme Forcadell to prepare their defences. Among the six who arrived at the Supreme Court for the hearing were Forcadell and the President of Together for Yes parliamentary group (Junts pel Si) Lluis Corominas.
