Spain: Royals attend memorial service for attack victims at Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia

Spanish royals King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia attended a memorial service to commemorate the Las Ramblas and Cambrils attack victims at Barcelona's Sagrada Familia cathedral, Sunday. The royal couple were welcomed at the cathedral by Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, President of the Generalitat of Catalonia Carles Puigdemont, Mayor of Barcelona Ada Colau, and Mayor of Cambrils Camino... Еще Mendoza. On Thursday afternoon, a van ploughed into pedestrians on the popular tourist destination, Las Ramblas. A total of 14 people were killed and scores more were injured. The attack was followed by similar incident in the nearby coastal town of Cambrils, where an Audi A3 was reportedly driven into a group of pedestrians, injuring seven people. Police fatally shot five suspected assailants early on Friday morning. The suspected assailants were allegedly wearing explosive belts. The attacks have been claimed by the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS, ISIL). Police are now linking the two incidents with an explosion that took place early on Thursday morning in the town of Alcanar. The blast was initially believed to have been a gas cylinder explosion, but has since been reportedly connected to the assemblage of a bomb by the group that carried out Thursday's and Friday's attacks.
