Luis Enrique admitted he had sacked former friend Robert Moreno from Spain’s national football team after it became evident Moreno intended to remain in charge of the team until after Euro 2020.
In an extraordinarily frank press conference in Madrid on Wednesday, Enrique not only marked his official return as Spain’s head coach but also accused Moreno of «disloyalty».
«I understand that he would... Еще love to be the national coach, that it is once in a lifetime chance, that he has worked very hard for it, that he is ambitious and being ambitious is a good thing in this society but for me that’s disloyalty,» said Moreno who added firing Moreno was his and only his decision.
Moreno had taken over Enrique’s post after the latter left the post to take care of his ailing daughter Xana in March.
«Very soon I realised that I wanted my life back and keep doing what I like the most which are having a link to football and competing and prove to my family that life continues,» Enrique said touching upon Xana’s subsequent death in August at the age of nine.
