Two groups of protesters gathered outside the Catalan Parliament in Barcelona, Wednesday, as local lawmakers set about approving a referendum on Catalan independence for October 1. The move goes against Madrid's wishes, and dozens of protesters outside the building complained about the approval which they see as anti-democratic. «We're here today because we consider what they're talking about... Еще, debating and possibly approving in the Catalan Parliament is an anti-democratic trap», said Nuria Suarez, who is against independence. However, Albert Lluc said that the referendum is what the people of Catalonia are demanding. «It's the final step in realising what we've wanted for a long time. Holding this referendum, for us, is the highest expression of democracy. We want independence for the country of Catalonia», he said.
