Spain: Rightwing anti-Rajoy demo turns rowdy in Madrid

Hundreds of nationalist protesters crowded the streets outside of Partido Popular’s (People's Party) headquarters in Madrid on Wednesday night, as they demanded Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy walk away from negotiations with Catalonia. Protesters rallied beneath the slogan ‘Rajoy, Spain is not up to negotiation’ as they sang chants including, «This is our land and we have to defend it... Еще». Catalonia held a referendum on October 1 to decide on the region's independence, however the Spanish government deemed the action 'illegal' and 'unconstitutional'. At least 893 people and 33 police officers were reportedly injured in violent confrontations between voters and Spanish police who attempted to stop Catalans from voting at polling stations.
