Spain: 'Remove your filthy hands from Catalan institutions' — Catalan PM blasts referendum raids

Republican Left of Catalonia (ERC) party deputy Rafael Rufian harshly criticised the ongoing raids on Catalan government offices and politicians, speaking at the Spanish Parliament in Madrid on Wednesday. «You and your lackeys in this exact moment are detaining elected Catalan politicians, only because of their ideology. I ask you, I demand you to remove your filthy hands from the Catalan... Еще institutions,» he said. «Be aware Mr. Rajoy that the will of the Catalan people is unstoppable, be aware that this is no longer a fight for the national rights of Catalonia, but it’s a fight for the civil rights of everyone,» he added. More than 700 investigations were launched by the Spanish government against mayors in Catalonia for supporting the upcoming independence referendum, with Catalan President Carles Puigdemont also being subjected to a probe. More than 40 mayors have already been formally summoned for questioning, reports add. Catalan citizens will vote in the historical independence referendum on October 1, in a ballot that has been deemed illegal and unconstitutional by the Spanish Supreme Court.
