Spain: Puigdemont pays tribute to assassinated Catalan President

President of the Catalan government Carles Puigdemont paid respects to former Catalonian President Lluis Companys, who was executed by former Spanish dictator General Francisco Franco, at a memorial service in Barcelona marking 77 years since his execution, Sunday. Puigdemont, who avoided the subject of the unilateral independence declaration, went on criticise the Spanish government, asserting... Еще that «now, 77 years later, when one supposes that legality and order that allowed that execution has already changed, Company hasn't received yet from the State the treatment he deserves, quite the opposite, the party that governs Spain still banalises this crime.» Mayor of Barcelona Ada Colau was also in attendance and took the opportunity to respond to the comments made by Spanish government's spokesperson Pablo Casado, who days before had threatened Puigdemont with the same destiny that met the executed president Companys by asserting that it «will end up the same way as the one who declared it 83 years ago.» Colau called on the Spanish government for Casado's resignation for having «offended the memory of any democrat, «adding «we don't need more pyromania; we need serene and constructive people.»
