Spain: Puigdemont cannot lead Catalonia from abroad, says Rajoy

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said it was «absurd» for someone living abroad to be considered president of Catalonia, at a press conference in Madrid on Friday. In reference to exiled Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont, he said that «it’s absurd to intend to be president of a community when you are living abroad. It’s like if I was located in Lisbon, it doesn’t make any sense, it’s not a... Еще legal or political problem, it’s a common sense problem.» He added «I wouldn’t nominate as candidate for my party someone who has fled Spanish justice.» Rajoy's remarks come after Carles Puigdemont's former party 'Junts per Catalunya' are reportedly seeking a way that allows him to participate in the Catalan parliament.
