Leader of the Socialists Party of Catalonia (PSC), Miquel Iceta, turned a suspended PSC meeting into a tribute to former Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) leader and former Deputy Prime Minister, Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba, in Barcelona on Friday.
Footage shows Iceta being applauded, walking through the crowd and greeting people on the way. According to reports, he was visibly emotional... Еще during his speech and referred to Rubalcaba as a “friend”, whom he would never forget. According to reports, PSC postponed its campaign agenda until after Rubalcaba’s funeral.
Rubalcaba died at the age 67 after having a stroke earlier in the week. He was reportedly taken to hospital in a serious condition on Wednesday, and passed away on Friday.
Rubalcaba was the leader of the PSOE from 2011 to 2014, when he resigned and returned to academia, resuming his position as a chemistry professor at the Complutense University of Madrid that he had held prior to entering Spain's parliament in 1993.
