Spain: Police union calls for resignation of PM Sanchez following clashes

The JUSAPOL national police union staged a protest calling for its members to be paid the same salary as regional Catalan and Basque police officers, in front of the Socialist Party of Catalonia (PSC) headquarters in Barcelona on Thursday. JUSAPOL organised a rally in Barcelona but once it reached the central Catalonia Square, clashes broke out between its members and pro-Catalan independence activists. The police union also asked for a investigation commission to deal with the incident at Thursday's protest. Spokesperson of JUSAPOL Catalonia Marcos Veiras explained the next steps of the protesters. «Today we're going to send a communicate to the mass media [saying] that on the 10th of next month we're going to finish the demonstration that was attacked in Catalonia Square.» «A complaint is going to be filed in the Interior Counseling and another complaint is going to be filed with the Barcelona government and it's also going to call for a commission of investigation in the Generalitat de Catalunya [Catalan government] and Barcelona's government, to determine the responsibilities of the operation in Catalonia Square.»
