Spain: Police enforce lockdown on Palma neighbourhoods amid COVID-19 spike

Police in Mallorca's capital city of Palma have reinforced a lockdown in Son Gotleu, Can Capes, Soledat Nord and Son Canals neighbourhoods as seen at a checkpoint at Son Gotleu on Friday night. Police officers were seen controlling the influx of people in and out of the emblematic Palma neighbourhood of Son Gotleu as well as setting up patrols in the area to make sure preventive measures were being carried out. «Well, we are controlling the confined area so that residents do not leave and so that non-residents don't come in either. The shops are also closed. And we are also looking at the use of face masks and people's gatherings,» said Palma de Mallorca Police officer Rafael Fernandez at the scene where several people were seen trying to pass the checkpoint. Police officers arrived at the neighbourhoods to enforce the lockdown at 22:00 local time (21:00 GMT) at which time several people were seen still outside.
