Spain: Police brutality a ‘shame’ — Barcelona reacts to Catalan independence vote

Barcelona locals on Monday described the Spanish police action to stop the Catalan referendum from going ahead as “exaggerated” and “a shame”. “I think it is a shame, I think that what the police did was exaggerated, I think that it was a really bad management of Rajoy’s government,” Barcelona citizen Miriam said. Catalan officials said 844 people were injured in clashes on Sunday, including... Еще 33 police. The Catalan government announced that according to preliminary results 2,262,424 ballots were cast; with 90,09 percent voting in favour of Catalonia's independence from Spain and 7,87 percent casting a 'No' vote. After weeks of unrest in the city following a Spanish Constitutional Court decision to suspend the Catalan referendum law, Catalans have voted in what is deemed by the Spanish government as an illegal ballot.
